You can’t ignore your true calling forever. Prek-3 teacher Kathy Phelps knows this fact, first hand.
The Ohio native spent 18 years helping people with their health needs as a medical assistant before she got her teaching degree at the University of Phoenix.
“I have always felt my heart drawn to the teaching field,” Phelps said. “One day I decided to follow my heart. Best decision I ever made. Teaching brings me such joy and fulfilment when I see the students in my class start to play together, learn the alphabet, numbers and shapes and use kind words and actions.”
Phelps helps some of St. Mary’s youngest children, many of whom have never gone to school before they enter her classroom.
“In my class, we try to make sure to practice communication and kindness,” she said. “I am truly blessed to be working at St. Mary school and to be able to teach the students about God.”
Phelps joined the staff in 2012 and for the past several years, she and her husband have organized the St. Mary’s Fair each spring.
When Phelps isn’t teaching, or working on behalf of the school, she enjoys paddle boarding with her husband and watching her son play baseball. ... See MoreSee Less
